Two programs want use of extension .asv

I just started up Finale 2011 (music notation program) and it reset the extension .asv back to Finale. It appears .asvColAdjFile was also set to Photoshop Cs6 (color file??) what happens when 2 programs want to same entension??

    I have since reinstalled Photoshop CS6 and let it keep the extension ,,.asv. Finally just uses it to restart after a crash. I can always manually restart Finale if that ever happens.
