iOS, WebView, Video, and other Sounds--After playing video in webview, all sounds are muted

So I'm creating a new WebView in order to display an mp4.  That webview is then sent to an empty-string URL in order to "close" the video and prevent it from playing in the background.

 

However, doing so tends to cause ALL OTHER SOUNDS generated by the app to not play, as if there was a global mute in effect.

 

What gives?
