Negative field

I have a form with a table, and in the table it has two columns and then a total column. Some of the fields need to always be negative, regardless if you input the number as a positve or negative. I have the pattern, to where it works when you enter a postive number. But if you enter a negative 
sign in front of it, it reflects it as (-1) instead of just -1, and then it gets treated like a positive in my totals column. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry, i'm using Adobe LiveCycle Designer.
