Bridge stops working in CS5

Apr 17, 2012 2:00 PM

Bridge seems to hang when I try to delete files and when I try to change work spaces. Can I reinstall Bridge independently of Photoshop CS5?

No, it is part of Photoshop.

I would at minimium purge your cache, and check your hd disk space.  Should have 10-20% free space to work well.

Not as fast a typist as Curt seems but in addition, a reinstall will not likely solve your problems if youd't use the clean tool.

Next to the already given clues I would also try a reset preferences for Bridge, hold down option (Mac) or control (Windows) while restarting Bridge and choose reset preferences.

I'd say at least 20% to 30% or more.  My practice is not to let any hard drive get to be 70% full as a general goal.

I used to say 20% but some thought that was overkill.  So thanks for the reinforcement.

I still think that is overkill...

And what I hate the most about it that it is percentages, having old disks with 250 or even 500 GB I can imagine 50 GB  (my rule is 10 %) might bring you in trouble. Yet current HD have 1 to 2 TB (more coming fast) 10 % free space is almost as much as my total disk size of 6 to 7 years back.

Yet with less then 200 GB free space on a 2 TB HD soon the performance starts to decrease (and I also have a separate 150 GB WD Velociraptor almost totally dedicated as Scratch Disk for PS). There might be a perfect technical explanation for this (please let me know if you do have the facts!) but the logic is far behind.

The need of 20 or even 30 % free space also means a quarter of inefficiency. To me that means also 25 % useless spend money, 25 % less space you thought you had when it came out of the box and as said, if somebody can explain the logic of all this I would be very glad to hear it!

    Omke,

Yes I too was wondering about the logic of using a percentage as the HD disk sizes grow.  Kind of like using 70% of RAM for photoshop as the standard.   Its outdated.

A percentage of memory devoted to PS  works fine if you have 4 gigs, but not so fine if you have more than 4 gigs.  I have adopted "allow 2 gigs for computer and the rest for PS" advice.

Not sure how that concept can translate to how much free disk space one needs on a 300, 600, 12000, or 2000 gig drive.
