Text editing box becomes inactive when multiple documents are open?

I have a user that recently has a problem when editing documents.  If he has more than one document open the text editor becomes inactive (greyed out).  It works fine with just one document open still.  Is this 'working as intended' or a glitch in the software.  User is running Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard.  We've tried running a repair on the install but that didn't work.  I haven't yet tried uninstall/reinstall - I'd prefer to get more information on this before we try that.

I am able to perform this with the Touchup Text Tool, AA9 Pro Win Vista.

I keep the tool pinned to the Toolbar, FWIW,

As shown, two open windows are not prohibitive to editting text, here.

But, what raises a question - Large amounts of editting to a pdf are a bad way to work, subject to pitfalls. Acrobat is NOT a text editor.

As Daniel stated, "Acrobat is NOT a text editor".

More to the heart of the matter - PDF is *not* a file format intended to support editing, formatting, page layout as can be done with word processors, text editors, or layout applications.

The PDF ISO Standard (ISO 32000-1) identifies what PDF is and consequently what it isn't.

On the face of it one may perceive that other than minor touchup "editing" via the Touchup Text / Edit Text tool is ok.

Long term (not if - but when) one ends up with goobered PDFs.

    Be well...
