Hello, I've looked around and haven't been able to find anything related to this post. I'm importing an AVCHD 29.97 1920x1080 .mts clip shot on a Sony FS100 into an AVCHD 1080p 30 sequence in Premiere Pro 4.2.1. Everything looks fine except the red render bar appears and the audio is nothing but really bad static. If I render the work area it plays fine except for the audio (still static). If I play the clip in VLC it plays fine. Same with Final Cut Express import via log and transfer (apple intermediate) - looks and sounds great. But I can't get anything but bad static in Premiere CS4 and After Effects CS4.

If you have a red bar upon import but no work, that means your project does not match your file
Are you 100% sure your video is 1080p and not 1080i ?

Thanks for the quick replys. I thought it was weird that I had to render the clip. I will double check, but the camera shows it as 1080/30p and when I log and transfer into FCP 6 it also shows as 1080p. Also, when I view it at 100% I don't see any signs of interlacing. I'll try a 1080i sequence and see what that does.
Created a new AVCHD 1080i sequence, imported the clip and the red bar has disappeared, but the audio is still really bad. Another question: why would a 1080i sequence be the proper sequence for something shot progressive? Even when I view the clip in Premiere at 100% I don't see any interlacing.

I am on CS5 and you are on CS4... so my only GUESS is that CS4 is doing something different than CS5... or your camera is really shooting 1080i
For more information on exactly what is inside your file...

Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... a screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing

If you have a red line over the timeline after importing a video and before adding any effects... your project is wrong for your video... read above about codecs
.
Once you know exactly what it is you are editing, report back with that information... and your project setting, and if there is a red line above the video in the timeline, which indicates a mismatch between video and project
Ok - I'm on a mac running Leopard and wasn't able to download Media Inspector. But was able to open the files up in a few different programs and this is what I got:
MTS File
Video Codec: MPEG-4 AVC/H.264
Audio Codec: LPCM
Data Rate: FH - 17Mbps
Frame Size: 1920 x 1080
Frame Rate: VLC shows 60i (59.) - Premiere, AE, Clipwrap, and if I wrap it in a .mov using Clipwrap and open in Quicktime they all show 30p (29.97). Also, the camera shows it as 1080/30p and if I view the video at 100% I don't see any interlacing at all.
Premiere Sequences I've tried:
AVCHD 1080p30
1920 x 1080 square (non-anamorphic)
Audio Sample Rate: 48000 Hz
If I use this Sequence I get the red render line
AVCHD 1080i30 (60)
1920 x 1080 square (non-anamorphic)
Audio Sample Rate: 48000 Hz
If I use this Sequence there is no red line
Audio in both seqences is just static noise and, if I import it into AE and create a comp I get the same bad/static audio.
The workflow in FCP is actually pretty good. With the log and transfer it transcodes it to ProRes 422 which makes it a little contrasty, which I don't like, but I'm able to use it without problem. However, with the newer camera and our system getting a little old (not to mention we're still on FCP 6) I'd like to be able to have a back-up editing plan with Premiere.
