Hello,
Does anyone know the best approach to get captivate 5.5 files onto the iphone / ipad?
I'm aware of most of the technical stuff and have no problems with the certificates.
I came across a technique on a forum that describes how to using the PFI.BAT file within flash cs5, however, I only have CS5.5 and this feature has been removed.
So what is the best technique?
I was thinking of just importanting the export SWF into flash and using the flash SDK tools (which works fine for a basic hello world app I sucessfully deployed to my ipad). Is this the best way to do it? If so are there any requirements or do I just import the SWF?
Would apprciate your assistance!
with regards
hi,
thanks for your reply, I'm sure you've a very experienced developer with 6,500+ posts. So firstly thanks for the quick reply.
I've seen the video online about PhoneGap (not the webinar but something on youtube).
I was just a little concerned about converting from Flash to HTML 5 and then to IOS. Should I be concerned about this? Or not?
I was just under the impression that HTML 5 is good for videos but not for Flash Games or Captivate files... I thought the flow might be limited and the program jumpy... Don't ask me why I have that assumption... please correct me if i'm completley wrong!
So would you say that is the best approach? Or simply putting the finished SWF files into Flash and using the new export features? Or another approach?
Also I found the HTML5 converter doesn't seem to work well on many applications and seems to crash a lot...although this might be because of some AS2 widgets I used...
thanks for your help!
The converter is still in beta, and not all interactions are supported yet, you'll have to be a bit more patient. But it is already way behind the pure video, indeed. However it is only meant to convert SWF's published with Captivate 5.5 - although it seems also to be mostly functional for CP5.0. Both versions only support AS3, so please get rid of your AS2 assets if you want to avoid crashes.
My way of learning Captivate was by trying to answer questions on this forum, bit weird... ![]()

Ok,
so what development software would you recommend...
Captivate is quite good and I've delployed a lot of stuff which I consider to fully utilise the majority of software, and of couse very little programming is required.
I used to be ok with Flash until AS3 came along and I don't feel learning it is the best use of my time. The stuff I want to build and sell can be made in probably 10% of the time with Captivate instead of flash... For example, simple navigation buttons are complex in AS3...
Is there any other options available? Such as Flex...?
PhoneGap is integrated in Dreamweaver, did see a demonstration on Windows.
Perhaps be a bit patient until next version of Captivate is released and the HTML-converter is optimized? For the moment the only authoring tool that has always published to HTML is Lectora. But software simulations are not up to the possibilities of Captivate.
