new set of camera profiles with v4 added to the list of options in camera calibration

Apr 18, 2012 1:16 PM

Hello there!

I'm shooting with a Nikon D300s and I have been using Elements 8 and Camera Raw 5.5 (included in Element 8) to process my pictures for two years now. Since today, When in Camera raw, I'm now seeing a new set of camera profiles with v4 added to the list of options in camera calibration. Like for instance "Camera D2X Mode 1 v4, Camera Landscape v4, Camera Neutral v4 etc...)Where did these are coming from (they weren't there last time I opened Elements about 2 days ago ) and what do they do different? They just increase the list and disturb my work flow.

Is there any setting that has been changed? But I don't recall making any change. This does puzzle me indeed.

Thanks for the help

These would have been added by an update to the Camera Raw plug-in. Each is a different method of interpreting the raw data. We get these profiles from the manufacturer, so this means that Nikon updated their profiles and we are distributing them. Likely, you would not be able to seem much difference between the older version and the newer version of the profile.

These profiles are just files on the computer and if you really just want to unclutter the list, you can remove the extra copies. They are stored here:

    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles\Camera\Nikon D300S

    Win Vista/7: C:\Program Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles\Camera\Nikon D300S

    Macintosh: HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Camera Raw/CameraProfiles/Camera/Nikon D300S

I would recommend keeping the v4 files, as these are the latest versions.
