I am trying to get thicker black lines for my custom cartoon effect; when I scrub, it is closer to what I want (nice thick black lines) but when it is rendered the lines are very thin. I am using a find edges to find the original outlines, and then darkening the lines to black. Any suggestions? http://postimage.org/image/5sn6facrp/

You're getting thicker lines while scrubbing because the resolution is being reduced. Precompose your footage in a lower resolution composition and apply the effect to the precomp to replicate the result. You could then overlay/multiply the results back to your higher resolution comp if required.
