I'm a Premiere Pro CS5 newbie and just practicing with the Trial Version. I have widescreen source material, but the exported results have black bars on top and bottom. When uploaded to YouTube, black bars fill the sides (because the original media is somehow more square). The photos explain mainly what I'm talking about better than I could. How can I fix this? Maybe I have the wrong presets for my Sequence?
The first thing to do is make sure your project matches your video

If you have a red line over the timeline after importing a video and before adding any

Ah, yeah dummy me. Thanks for responding so quickly! I have two source materials:
The metadata for the first one, as listed in the Project panel:
720x368 (1.1852), 23.976 fps, 48000 Hz - Compressed - Stereo
And the second one:
720x478 (1.1852), 23.976 fps, 48000 Hz - Compressed - Stereo
My Sequence setting is 720x480 (1.2121), 29.97 fps, 48000 Hz - Stereo
It seems like I'd have to make 720x368 my Sequence setting. Would that be correct? Could I modify an existing Sequence? Or would I have to make a new one with that setting?
For easy searching, download the product user guide PDF(s)
The individual CS5 pages also have links to the earlier user guide pages

Using the DESKTOP mode is first mentioned on page 134 of the PDF I downloaded for CS5... I don't know if the PDF changed for CS5.5
