recording Actions

Hi everybody, sorry for my english.

 

Does anybody knows why is impossible to record Actions in InDesign?

    Because InDesign does not have an Actions panel like Photoshop or Illustrator.

    I cant see that feature in future indesign versions in a long while...

      

    there are just too many "unrecordable" events in even the shortest of mundane tasks.

     

    What do you want to record tho, there maybe other ways...

    well, I try to explain, my english is not perfect. I have a hundred scanned pages (.jpg) from an issue that I have to place in each empty page of a document. I usually drag a page from an external folder and I place it in the upper left corner. If I already have an image within the page, is enough to drag the external icon for replacing the old one. It is easier and faster and it doesn't require precision.

    How can I do to create a hundred page document in which I have a hundred objects all equal? I have to place the first object on the first page, then copy and past a hundred times. Finally I can start to insert every page by dragging them one by one while the best solution would be to create just one page document instead, place the image and issue the command "insert a hundred pages with the same content". But I don't think we have it yet. So I tried to find the way to record an action.

     

    Is it clear enough? it had been a little hard.

    there are scripts to do that...

     

    and also,

     

    you can also create a multi page pdf and use a script like multipageimporter to position and create pages

    thanks Grant, I didn't know scripts. This demonstrate that everybody know Actions, less people know Scripts.

    You say "you can als", you can what?

    I did edit:

     

    multipageimporter is a free script and can can import a multipage PDF (yes wait...) into indesign, create extra pages and position etc can be set too. Now, you can create a pdf from a selection of images either in Acrobat pro or bridge.

     

    you will need to download the script and place in the ID scripts folder.

    Grant and Peter, thank you for the help. MultiPageImporter is a .jsx file, when I open it I have a listed instructions (see attach), maybe is a PC file? I'm a Mac user.

     

    Anyway, to create a pdf is my final task. I have not a pdf to import. I actually could make a pdf in the meanwhile I scan the paper. My scanner can do it. The problem are skew pages. My scanner doesn't automatically deskew. And I have not a software for Mac to do it. So... I must deskew the single pages (Photoshop) and after I can make the pdf. I thought InDesign should be the better way. Another way is to scan a complete pdf, then deskew pages in InDesign. It depends on which way is the faster one.

    Javascript files are cross-platform so you can use them with both mac and windows...

     

    You are not suppose to open that file, just copy it to your Applications > Adobe InDesign > Scripts > Scripts Panel directory. After that you will see it in InDesign if you open Window/Utilities/Scripts panel... you may have to open some sub-folders in that panel. Then just double-click MultiPageImporter script and it will ask where you have stored your PDF.
