Why does my timeline look different?

    You're using Premiere, not Premiere Pro.

     

    That's the way Premiere looked.

    Your screen shot says Premiere, not Premiere Pro

     

    Go to HELP--ABOUT and report back what version you are using

    Ah, that is an inset from PrPro. I thought that it was the Program Monitor, showing an Asset.

     

    Now it makes perfect sense.
