We are upgrading our applications from ColdFusion 5.0 to ColdFusion 9.0. It is clearly indicated on Adobe site that ColdFusion 9.0 is compatible with oracle 11g R1 Database. But our database is getting upgraded to Oracle 11g R2 from Oracle 9i. Could someone please confirm whether ColdFusion 9.0 is compatible with Oracle 11g R2 database?
Thanks & Regards,
It's rather disappointing this question was never answered, but apparently I'm only the 2nd Adobe customer owning ColdFusion 9 needing to connect to Oracle 11g R2. Now I'm in the position of needing to advise management whether CF9 will connect to 11g R2 with the existing JDBC driver, or whether an updated driver that supports 11g R2 comes with 9.0.1 updates for CF9. I could not figure out whether that was the case or not, and am hoping someone soon might be able finally answer this question. The documentation for CF9.0 only shows support for 11g R1.
Actually I can answer this question myself now. Adobe ColdFusion 9 supports Oracle 11g out of the box with the bundled JDBC drivers. Oracle 11g R2 might include new proprietary PL/SQL (I wouldn't know), but for all my applications that hit Oracle data sources, there was no problem getting connected when our company upgraded from Oracle 9g to 11g. We have simple queries hitting views in Oracle, and the changes between 11g and 11g R2 had no impact on my applications. There may also be new features in Oracle 11g R2 that are not supported by the JDBC drivers, but like I said those new features have no impact on any of my PL/SQL queries from CF9.
Thus the simple answer is YES... Adobe ColdFusion 9 can connect natively to Oracle 11g R2.
