Does anyone know how to lighten the background color of all the little display windows that designate, font type, size, etc? Mine are o dark I can't read the words or numbers. I've looked everywhere I can think of to change the setting.

What version of PSE? If you have PSE 10, sorry, but it is what it is.

Well, in PSE 8 you can go to the preferences>general and there's a radio button to let you choose between a dark and light(er) color scheme, but the contrast is pretty poor for either, I'm afraid.
