Loading frames before images (preloader question)

Apr 21, 2012 5:44 PM

I've got an .swf of which is 83% images and weighs ~4mb.

For that big size I decided I would do an preloader, however, the preloader's frame will only load after images and other resources are loaded.

Basically, the preloader will only appear after 83% of that .swf is loaded, which leaves the white screen for a big time, and only then displays the preloader.

In even simpler words, I want to set the loading priority of something(a resource? a scene? a frame?), or, load only a single frame and then let that frame load the rest.

Please point out if you didn't understand what I mean.

click file>publish settings>flash>script settings (the wrench icon) and assign your classes to export in a frame beyond your preloader.  of course, you can't use any of those assets (including embedded fonts) in your preloader.

click the wrench icon that's to the right of script settings.  you will see an input textfield where you can designate the frame to export classes.  it will have a "1" in it, by default.  change that to a frame greater than 1 and greater than the frames used by your preloader.

scenes are irrelevant.  they don't even exist in your swf.

ok.  if that didn't work, leave that change alone.  it just means you have an older cs version which requires another step.

now, for each symbol (in your library) linked for export, untick export in frame 1.  then test.
