hello ~
After upgrading to CS5.5 i realize the application manager is missing and is needed for all auto updating. I downloaded Application Managger 2.0 but it won't install. Every time i try to install and get error message "Installer failed to intitialize." This is very frustrating.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks for the quick reply, Arpit.
That is precisely the problem - when i tried to do an update within one of the CS apps, the error message tells me it can't do an update because i'm missing App Manager. And i can't do any update at all without AM. This is the AM download page i found:

Thanks for the info, Steve.
Well, the next issue is that when i tried to install AAM patch as recommended on the page you refer, i get a different kind of error message: "Installer failed to initialize..." So i'm running around in a circle - the patch installer that's supposed to fix the problem has it's own problem.
Pls advise.
OK, it's sounding like there's some serious problems in your installation.
I'd suggesting completely removing your installation and trying again.
You could use the Installer to uninstall, but an even better choice might be to use the Adobe Cleaner application to clean everything out:
http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
Then reinstall CS5.5 from scratch.
Actually i already spent quite a bit of time trying different things on this problem before posting on this forum.
As noted in my first post, I had CS5.5 working just fine on another machine. The problem started with my new machine after i transferred my Mac user profile from the older one. So i did use Clearner before re-installing CS5.5 on the new machine. Note that i used the cleaning option instead of uninstall option with cleaner. So maybe using the later would really clean everything for a new installation, perhaps. Maybe I'll try again.
After trying to uninstall my CS5.5, and this is what i conclude: Adobe has been in the software business over 20 years, and i'm astounded the software engineers didn't get this one part right
Apparently Cleaner app didn't really "clean" out all the CS files from my drive because after re-installation, Adobe App Manager is still missing or not working correctly. So I tried using the Uninstaller (part of CS), and that didn't work either because the error message says it needs AMM to run!
CS5.5 needs AMM to for self updating. AMM is not working because it needs re-installing. Uninstall app itself doesn't work because it needs AMM to run. The interdependcy of the CS apps is resulted in loop of problems that you can't get out of. This is just plain ridiculous.
Any product manager here can figure this out?
Hi orbix,
As you said "The problem started with my new machine after i transferred my Mac user profile from the older one" , so try creating a new admin user account and then run the installer after logging into the new user account.
Meanwhile can you share the PDApp.log file present at following location on your machine -
~/Library/Logs/PDApp.log
You can upload it to any file server (say acrobat.com) and share the link here.
Thanks
Thanks for the tip, Sharad. I already tried switching user profile, and that didn't do the trick.
An Update:
So i looked around on my older Mac and noticed that there were a couple folders related to AMM under the Application > Utility folder. Copied these 2 folders over to my new Mac where i was having the problem. Magically, it worked. That's all it was, just two missing folders.
I'm no software engineer, thou i'd think the people behind this software should improve on this: You either make the installer more tolerance (install what's missing, over ride what's not correct), or build in more specific detection scheme and specific error message output to let user know what the heck is not right so we don't waste time figuring out the cause.

Orbix, After trying everything possible that I could find I finally came across yours. Copied the entire Adobe Application Manager folder that worked on my other system over and it worked!!
Thanks!!!
Adobe, You've really got to get this stuff figured out. Very very frustrating process and no clear fix listed. 5 months later and people are still struggling. This should just work, and if there is an error, a clear definition of how to fix the problem. I'm quite dissapointed.
