Open InDesign 2.0 file in the CS5

Apr 23, 2012 8:28 PM

I have a InDesign 2.0 file. When I open with CS5 version, the application warning the following: "Cannot open 'File.indd'. Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest version, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign."

Also the dialog box shows the item "EPS PAGE ITEM.RLPN".

How fix this? How I can to open a InDesign 2.0 file again?

Normally a version 2.0 file will open fine in CS5 (I jsut found one to verify). Typically an upgrade plugins warning means the file was saved in a later version than the one being used to open it, but this isn't listing the usual suspects for CS5.5. I'm seeing the plugin on my system in the Required folder for all versions of ID that I have checked, so that would be the first thing to check. Is the plugin actually there? In theory it can't be disabled, but if it is there, you should check the extension manager under the Help menu to be sure it is active.

I suspect that ultimately you may have to reinstall, but look for the plugin first.

Do you still have version 2.0 (which is not the same as CS2, so maybe we should calrify just what the original file is)? Will it open in the original?

If it is, in fact a version 2.0 file and will not open in version 2.0 you have a real problem and the only hope I know of would be to send it to Markzware: Fix Your Bad InDesign Files!

If you want to zip the file and send it to me, I'll have a go at opening it in a few hours, but I can't promise anything.

    >I go to install InDesign 2.0 in my system.

Surely not on the same system where you have your newer version as well? I'm pretty sure you are going to destroy that by installing an older version.

I don't think it's a problem on OSX, I have CS, CS3, CS5.5 on my machine and can have all three open at once. OSX installs them in separate folder and also stores their preferences and app support in separate folders
