I bought this while attending classes on Premiere Pro at the local college and am still attending there.
I would now like to work with CS5.5 because of some of the cool improvements and intend to buy a new copy at the campus bookstore.
I want to play by the book. I have a question and do not know the answer.
May I sell my old copy? May I give it away?
ALSO, IS IT POSSIBLE TO MERELY UPGRADE TO CS5.5 FROM THIS ACADEMIC VERSION?

Matt (aka Clueless in San Francisco),
I'll answer your last question first. Yes, you may upgrade from the academic version of Production Premium CS5 to the full commercial version of Production Premium CS5.5. Please call Adobe Customer Support who can assist you in making this purchase. Note that there are no upgrades from one academic version to the next given the exceptionally low price of these academic versions to start with.
Whereas you may sell / transfer the license for non-academic / student versions of Adobe products, under no circumstances can you sell or transfer licenses for academic / student versions.
Also, once you upgrade any version of an Adobe product, whether from one version to the next or from academic / student to full commercial version, the license for the old software effectively no longer exists other than that you may continue to use the older software on the same system that you have installed the newer version as a means of transitioning to the newer version.
a question if you have time. If the license no longer exists on a previous version can I do the following:
Already own cs4 design premium student> then upgrade from the student to cs5.5 design premium commercial. After I have upgraded to the commercial version, am I now legally able to sell the licenses?
By upgrading your student version of CS4 Design Premium to a commercial license for CS5.5 (or any other version for that matter), your license for CS4 effectively no longer exists other than that you can continue to use it on the same systems on which you are running CS5.5. Regardless of whether you upgrade them or not, academic/student versions of Adobe software are not legally transferable under any condition. However, you can sell/transfer/give away the license for commercial CS5.5 (make sure you do the paperwork available from Adobe's website); that does not include rights to the student CS4 and if you sell the commercial CS5.5, you no longer may use the student CS4 yourself.
