iPhone support

Hi,

 

Looking carefully on the video posted by Adobe, CS6 seems to allow iPhone layout in its new feature "variation of layouts". Do you think it will be activated and will DPS be ready at the same time for iPhone support?

    Yes, the v20 release will support iPhone. We'll go into more details later.

    Those who have a DPS Pro account will they be able to create apps without paying additional fee because it's an app for iPhones ?

    Will it be possible to publish to iPad and iPhone using the same Indesign document?

    I can't imagine why you would want to.

     

    The iPhone is not, IMO, going to work well for magazines. I see this as whole different target.

    Because we publish six issues a week, and doing everything twice would be impossible.

     

    If Indesign CS6 can include different layouts in one document, using the same text and image source, this would be very helpful for us.

    Yes but then you will have to SERIOUSLY repurpose A LOT your layout to meet minimum readibility requirements on such small screens.

    Yes, InDesign CS6 can help but I wonder how much of the Liquid Layout could really automate such a reshuffling of the whole layout. I'm skeptical. But there is a new Link Content and Styles Matching features in InDesign CS6 that will help you anyway.

    I agree with you, it is very different. But I've a problem. I'm now going to publish a pro magazine that has already been published on the Appstore in iPad and iPhone versions. And Apple refuses any update for a unique iPad version, saying it is not acceptable for iPhone clients. That's why we have to be able to create both versions, even if I'm myself very sure iPhone is not a good device for magazines.

    Bob, I agree iPhone is not the ideal screen for magazines, but I work in a newspaper ;-)

    thanks fot your answer. Any idea of the date of release? I have to publish a mag both on iPad and iPhone for an international festival, the beginning of june.

    That would be the approximate time of release, I believe. I wouldn't bet the farm on making that with DPS. Being the first release of the iPhone viewer, I'm sure there will be bugs, you'd have to wait for the app submission/approval time as well.

    Bob,

     

    Will the v20 release also support mobile phone resolutions for Android?  The Adobe Content Viewer allows us to view folios we've created for the Xoom on my Droid X, and while it's not ideal it works and is usable.

    The iphone does not work for digital magazines in page form. You can see

    that already in the few magazines available in the newsstand.

    I hope to see some good designs in the future, but I am not that optimistic.

     

    Everybody is just hoping to get more users downloading boring and bad

    designed advertisements in dps form when they are on the iPhone

    I agree with you.  Unfortunately, I still can't seem to get my client to understand that.  Reading anything other than an iBook on an iPhone is horrible.  There are a a lot of ugly magazines avail for the iPhone in the app store.  I've downloaded a few just to see how bad they look, and they are awful.

    I bet some creative designers will start building functional apps for iPhone.

    Soon, they'll be asking to implement databases and list views in InDesign...
