So I may be the only one playing with CS6 that is having this problem and I may be doing something wrong BUT when I create a basic 3D text object it somehow is somewhat transparent. It looks almost like it has a blending option chosen but it is clearly on normal. I am not understanding why I am having this problem. Here is a picture of what I mean.
I am using an iMac with Lion and all the OS X updates. The computer is relatively new (purchased new from apple last June). I believe my graphics card is up to date. I thought about the layer positioning as well. I have the layer placed on the top of everything because I thought maybe I have blending options on the other layers and it is showing through but that is not the case. I am literally going crazy trying to figure out what is going on. I didn't have this problem the other day but yesterday when I made this one it started doing it. Any advice is helpful.
One more idea. Is the source text okay? In your 3D Panel, select the "Any..." element, then press "Edit Source" in the Properties Panel. Make sure the 2D text has a 100% Opacity, and the Blending Mode is Normal.
The 2D text is at 100% opacity and normal blending mode. Below is the file. I have tried creating the same text in another file and it works fine. Right now I am planning on just rasterizing the 3D text and dragging it back to the original file since testing that worked but I would still like to know either what I did wrong in this file or if I found a bug or whatever it is.
*FYI this is a file I use often so you will find many extra layers that are not currently being used
My quick guess is that your materials somehow are set to Opacity >100%. I say this because both the front face and the side extrusion are showing the lower layer artwork. I can't quite tell but it looks like the bevels are still fully opaque.
Go to the 3D panel and target one or all of the text extrusion materials, then look at the Opacity value in the Properties panel. Set the value to 100% explicitly.
I targeted each of the text extrusion materials seperately and they all show 100% opacity. That was definitely one of the things I looked at before as well but looking at it again its still the same 100%. That was a valid thought though. Thanks.
So I'm not sure how you built the file, but I think the problem stems from the color mode of your document. Do you recall how you were able to get a 3D layer into the CMYK doc?
Also, beware that converting it back to RGB may crash Ps. I'm looking into your file now with various platforms.
Well I started with a CMYK doc and then added the text. Then I clicked 3D while in the CMYK doc already. This gave me the 3D options like usual and the problems as well. I think you are right about the color mode though. I can make a perfectly fine 3D word in RGB but it looks much different in CMYK. Do you think my best bet is to create the text in an RGB file then rasterize it and paste it in my CMYK file?
The 3D features really should only be used in RGB. You found a hole that we need to fix.
For cases where you have RGB 3D and convert to another mode, Ps displays a dialog asking if you want to flatten any 3D layers (so no need to rasterize). For your existing file, you can create a new RGB doc at the same pixel dimensions, and then drag the 3D layer ("ANYTHING") over to it. Now delete that layer in your original file, and then convert to RGB. Now drag the 3D layer from the new doc back into your converted to RGB doc.
Sorry for the trouble and hope this keeps you from having to redo too much work.
