Interactive PDF: interactive button limitations

I don't get what I'm missing here.

 

I make my buttons

 

insert multiple pages

 

choose my button and go to the button flyout

 

add action on release to go to page 2

 

but then the button doesn't do anything.

 

What am I missing?

    Buttons will not work in the Indesign , you have to export the file in the Interactive PDF and then check in the PDF.

    You can use Window>Interactive>Preview panel for quick testing. It´s meant for previewing SWF files before exporting, but many of the PDF´s interactive features are also supported, like Go To Page actions. You can test your file that way before exporting PDF.

    I've tried exporting it into pdf, but it says that the interactive button function won't transfer and it's just going to be the image of the buttons

    Which PDF viewer are you using?

     

    Also When you hover your mouse on the button , does it change into hand like icon?

    That´s good point, only Adobe Reader and Acrobat fully supports PDF´s interactive features. For instance Mac Preview which is very popular among mac users does not support all interactivity.

     

    And another thing you may want to check is that you have made correct setting while exporting (see image)

     

    And one more thing is transparency. You can´t have any transparent objects (extracted PSD image, object with opacity or blendmode, object with effect like drop shadow) on the top of button.

    It may kill the interactivity.

    yeah when I'm still in indesign it turns into a hand....also when I try to save it as a pdf, a warning pops up and says that the button go to page action will not transfer so it doesn't matter what viewer I use.

    did you choose File > Export >  PDF (InteractiveI? Not PDF (Print)?

     

    If you did I doubt that you may have some transparancy issue. Try to create new layer and make sure it is above all the other layers. Choose the layer and create (or cut/paste some exisiting) button to that layer. Then export pdf and test if that particular button works...

     

    And it may also be good idea to trash preferences...

    Sorry, How could I miss it at first place......

     

    The action "Go to Page" will work only in SWF not in PDF......check the image below for actionsUntitled.png
