Hi.
I'n no good at all this CS5 business!
I've removed the white background from the original image as it was a January day and net curtains, it left a horrible blue cast around all the family shots. I used the Quick Select Tool and the eraser tool - maybe I was in error?
1) How do I remove this blue rim light please?
Also, this girl appears in group shots and is far too oragne when everyone else is milky white - not sure what she thought she was doing having a Tango spray job!
I applied something already which added some blue to her skin ..... now her teeth have gone cool too so I need to back-track and start on the oragne removal from scratch.
2) Thus far I've re-opened the finished image into Bridge as it has a specific Orange channel in there, but what trick am I missing whilst the image in open on Photoshop please?
Many thanks Photoshop gurus!
Hi Tim
You were right to start with Quick Select, but rather than follow with the erazor, use Refine edge (from the Options bar when any selection tool is selected). When you have worked through the sliders to get it as good as you can, use the Decontaminate edge which should remove the blue cast.
If that fails to completely clean up the edge, use a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, and click on the scrubby slider at the top left corner of the panel. Then click on the image where the colour is worst, and drag left to unsaturate it. You can expand the colour range affected by dragging the sliders out at the bottom of the Hue/Sat panel.
If the above causes problems elsewhere in the image, invert the layer mask to fill it with black, and use a white paint brush to paint over the problem areas.
Now open a second Hue/Saturation layer, and repeat the process with the Orange skin. If you are careful, you can do it with a single Hue/Sat layer, but keep it simple, and use two.
Thanks.
Clearly I need a Mr Dennis her to show me what the Balzers to do.
I'll try and work these instructions out as the tutorials to date that I have watched have not really touched on the sliders so I have no concept of what they do .. yet!
I've gone out and bought the Martin Evening Book so I may have to look things up. Likewsie, I have no idea yet what the Decontamination buttom is but I will.
Sounds like I have to start again from the RAW file. This is why I never make any headway and this couple's Book is still on page 4 - really I loathe all this!
I'd better find out what a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer might be too! Which in turn leaves me wondering what an invert the layer mask mighht be.
That's why I've lost interest in all things digital! Heyho! One more Book to prepare and I can hang up my cameras for good and go and do something else for a living.
Watch this video tutorial by Martin Evening:

Here's a few minutes rough color correction. I adjusted the red channel using Hue/Saturation and also with Selective color. For the blue edge, after I turned the white into transparent with mask edge, I locked the transparency of the layer and simply painted roughly over the edge with a brush with color blending mode picking color from the nearby hair.
Thanks.
Adobe seems to have locked me out of the forum so I thank you.
I had previously been watching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Xy5L0U7x7c plus the Mr Evening link which is top-notch.
I'd like to see more of these!

Do you know a company who can do this stuff in the UK say who don't charge the earth?
I've been trying to understand this stuff and the more I fail the more I fail. Two days on and I've yet to step outside my house - hopeless work flow and no way to be living a life.
I absolutely don't want to do this for or as any part of earning a living so need to farm out this stuff. I'm selling all my camera gear as soon as my last job on 05 June is over so keep an eye out on eBay for the Nikon, Blad, Mamiya and Bowens etc kit I'll be flogging off!
20yrs on from a post grad in photography and I have failed miserably to grasp any of this digital work flow.
Time spent infront of a pc is time in my life utterly wasted - it's having implications both for my health and my home life so something has to give and it's the failing business of my photography. At some point one has to accept that the end has been reached.
So who do I send these files to?
