Hi. Refiine edge is on and off unresponsive in reflecting changes I make in values in the dialog box. Mostly this is with smooth and feather functions. Also some of the views are only availible if I cycle through them with the "f" cycle comand and are unavalible by clicking.

I suppose the first thing we need to check is your video card and driver.
see this link for video cards that have veen tested: What features use the GPU and how do I troubleshoot GPU issues?
Then, go to the vendor of your card and ensure you have the latest driver.

Next, open Photoshop and go to help>system info and cut and paste your system info here and we'll take a look.
Let us know how it goes with the driver. If that is all well, we'll need to have a list of what you were doing when it became unresponsive...like the sequence of events if it is reproducable.

Hi Pattie, I just tried to use PS6 in the main window of my mac book. I did not test a lot of features but so far it's smooth and no probs although I did not try 3d yet. Will do that later. I went to the preferences to change some of the settings mentioned in the link below and found some of the options greyed out. see attached.Not sure what that implies. Hope this helps. aloha , U

Still not seeing the screenshot.

You can post them in the forums here using the little camera icon "insert image" -- sometimes a different browser might give better functionality with this if you're having trouble with it.

I did not see that you tried the GPU troubleshooting guide yet, please also try this and check all the above issue to see if it resolves any of them:

Reset preferences.
Resetting preferences returns OpenGL settings to their default status. Reset Photoshop preferences by pressing and holding Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Windows) or Shift+Option+Command (Mac OS) immediately after you start Photoshop.
Click Yes when asked if you want to delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings File.
Retry the function that caused the problem.
Change the OpenGL mode to Basic.
Setting the OpenGL mode to Basic uses the least amount of GPU memory and the most basic GPU feature set.
Close all documents.
Choose Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences (Mac OS)
In the Performance panel, click the GPU Settings Advanced Settings button.
Choose Mode > Basic
Restart Photoshop.
If this solution resolves the problem, switch to Normal mode. See if the issue recurs. If the issue recurs, return to Basic mode.

Note: If you’re changing GPU preferences to troubleshoot a problem, re-launch Photoshop after each change.

Hi Pattie et al, Here I am trying again to send the screen shot of the greyed out advanced settings from inside yahoo mail itself. And I will try too from the forum. see if this time it gets through. This is the screen shot showing the greyed out options in the advanced settings. Perhaps CS6 may just be aggravating into manifestation an already present problem that CS5.1 skirted? Please tell me from my computer specs, there in the thread, If I should be able to use CS6 with advanced settings to use all the CS6 features and if there were no hardware problems and if these problem have not been reported by others with a similar setup. If I should be able to - then - I will call it a hardware problem and get me to a tech-erie forthwith (diagnostics @ mac store)!
If it helps at all - I have the steps from the last freeze out.
Launched CS6. Tried to follow along with Deke with the fotolia image library file with a gazillion layers of the baby and mom. In layers panel changed the search criteria kind/mode/select all/. It took a long time to write PSD doc then reverted with F12. It took an even longer time to revert. After I let it run for a time without touching anything. I opened one of Deke's extruded text docs. Things were slowing down at this point. I opened the properties panel and lost cursor response, then keystroke response and then the beach ball of death was upon me. Force quit CS6. It froze in place and then the rest of the computer followed suit. Opt/com/esc became unresponsive. I forced computer to shut down and have decided perhaps something beyond CS6 is to blame. The external monitor was not an issue this time so it's not that. So I do need to determine if my computer specs are up to snuff for the demands of this app. You can see them there in the thread
and can let me know, yes? If you tell me it should be able to take the load - then - I will get me to a tech-erie forthwith! If you tell me they are not I will...deal with it. I will not launch CS6 beta again till I hear from you'all. I thank you all very much, aloha, Uhane

Thank you for the screen shot. You must be on the forum to post those as you have seen. So you now see the place to change your setting. One thing I asked you to try above was to change this advanced setting to basic, close Photoshop, and see if any of the problems go away.IF they do go away, then try setting it to normal and exit and restart Photoshop and see if problems stay away.IF so, use this setting, if not, use basic setting. If neither help, please let me know.

I also asked you to try resetting your preferenes. To do this, press and hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+
Shift (Mac OS) immediately after you start Photoshop. See if this helps your issues. After any of these Photoshop changes, please exit and and restart Photoshop before testing.

I did these things the first time you posted the instructions for me. ISome of them twice. As you can see in the Advanced setting tab screen shot there are 2 items greyed out as inactive. They should be active, no? These were items you said might give a clue. Hope this helps. I browsed through the forum and now see others are reporting similar issues to mine. I hope the brakdown of what I was doing when CS6 froze helps too. thanks, aloha, Uhane

bug - dialog boxes extremely dark" . I hope this helps you more. I seems CS6 is now making CS5.1 act buggy now too. Please let me know what other system info you need. Also is there a setting by while PS can report back to adobe stroke for stroke to determine what dehavior instigated the aberation? I am going to uninstall CS6 from my system and let you know what difference than makes. I do hope it is a clean uninstall! I am also going into to mac store in the AM to have diagnostic run on video card. I will report back here with findings. aloha, Uhane.

Hi Pattie et al, I Just ran diagnostics on the external monitor and it came up clean, uninstalled the CS6 (had to go iinto library to fetch stray files). and restared computer and opened CS5.1. It's running flawlessly and very fast as it did before. Graphics in playback on other apps (like VLC and FCPX) are a bit more smooth since the CS6 unistall too. I will still be going in for the mac video card diagnostics on Monday but wanted to let you now. Also I have info on my external monitor that may help. It is aSamsung syncmaster 204B, model code (?) # LS20BRDBBV/XAA. I went to the samsing site to see what up with that but there were no problem posted. I know it's a bit old but not SO old as to not work. It's done me proud so far. If it's too old for CS6 and it's time for an ungrade I can face that too. I have plenty of windowsXP junkie friends who would love it.

HI Pattie, Chris et al, I just got my macbook pro back from the mac store after leaving it there to run full diagnostic, in particular, the GPU. It came back with a clean bill of health. I wanted to eliminate that as a culprit. I have had CS6 Uninstalled for a few days and the system is back to normal. These problems in CS6 I had been explaing are only present in CS6. So.. I will wait for release date get that. I have to stop the beta testing as it's causing too many problems for CS5.1.
