adobe please can we have technical info on LR speed issues

Apr 2, 2012 8:37 PM

So we can work out how to improve performance.

For instance, putting cache files on an SSD? OR fast hard drive? Whats the limits speed: is it sequential wirte or access times?

Give us the specs of your development machines so that we can see where they differ to ours. (And yes we expect them to be snazzy)

Irrelevant until they get the bugs worked out.

    See http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/optimize-performance-lightroom.htm l

Your system looks up to the standard, and not very different to mine - on which LR3 and LR4 run just fine. A minority of users has been affected by the 4.0 bugs, so I recommend you download and install the 4.1 Release Candidate before worrying too much about tweaking your hardware.

To calibrate "fine", I'm very impatient and know what I'm doing well enough to work at high speed. My expectations aren't low.

Have a look at your graphics card driver. Is it up to date?

i have a i7 2600k, geforce GTX 460 (GTX 470 on my second system)  and 16 GB ram, catalog is on a 240 GB SSD.

LR4 is as fast as LR 3.6 here... can´t complain.

Were you able to change from the default location of your cache? I change mine (from the default of 1GB at users/library/caches/Adobe Camera Raw) and then the changes don't seem to 'stick.' So I'll change the cache size to something more appropriate like 20 or 30 GB on a different drive, and then the next time I open up the preferences, it's back to the default.

So....long story short: LR4 isn't remembering (for me anyway) any changes to cache location and size.

    Anybody else having this issue?

    John

the only way I can get the speed (in the Dev module) to be anything comparable to LR3 is to stay within the confines of "process 2010" as well...

mac pro 2x2.66, 9GB ram, 120GB ssd (boot)
