So we can work out how to improve performance.
For instance, putting cache files on an SSD? OR fast hard drive? Whats the limits speed: is it sequential wirte or access times?
Give us the specs of your development machines so that we can see where they differ to ours. (And yes we expect them to be snazzy)
Its not - especially for those of us that have not even looked at LR4 after seeing speed issues detailed here.
Letting us know whether - as my example - whether the limiting factor is hard drive read/write/ sequential/random/ how important access times are etc will apply to both versions.
LR3 is the slowest bit of software I use, I am forever waiting for it to complete doing something before I can move on. If I have this issue with LR3 (on an i7 920 with 12gb RAM, OS on SSD, cache on velociraptor), I wont even consider LR4

Your system looks up to the standard, and not very different to mine - on which LR3 and LR4 run just fine. A minority of users has been affected by the 4.0 bugs, so I recommend you download and install the 4.1 Release Candidate before worrying too much about tweaking your hardware.
I think part of the problem with discussing this is peoples expectation of what is fine - this I wouldn't really know unless I sat down in front of your computer. I can say that with my default process preset (which has lens corrections and adjustments in just about every panel) tat making a change to any slider is a pretty slow and jittery process - like I get a screen update 1-2 times a second.
Were you able to change from the default location of your cache? I change mine (from the default of 1GB at users/library/caches/Adobe Camera Raw) and then the changes don't seem to 'stick.' So I'll change the cache size to something more appropriate like 20 or 30 GB on a different drive, and then the next time I open up the preferences, it's back to the default.
So....long story short: LR4 isn't remembering (for me anyway) any changes to cache location and size.
Anybody else having this issue?
John
the only way I can get the speed (in the Dev module) to be anything comparable to LR3 is to stay within the confines of "process 2010" as well...
