VLC or MPC (Media Player Classic) are the ones that come to mind, but fluid playback of MP4 files still depends to a large degree on the speed of the PC and the background processes/services running.

    QT Player should play these.

Here is a "second" on those three recommendations. I use each, with the QT Player being the "Pro" version. Note: there have been some very bad versions of QT Player. I am still on the 7.5.5 version. When the bad updates have come out, they have really messed up many Adobe programs. I do not know what the current version is, or how well, or poorly, it might work with Adobe apps. Apple just does not do that good a job writing programs for the PC and for Adobe programs. Just a caveat. For me, the 7.5.5 was the "last known good," but newer ones might be good, as well.

Oh, dude.  That's just about one of the worst players out there, right along with Windows Media Player.  QT has gamma issues, PAR issues, and all kinds of other problems reported by folks in these forums.

Both QuickTime and WMP are best avoided as players whenever possible.

VLC, KM Player, GOM Player and UMPlayer are a few very good media players.

    i hear you!

ever since a couple of years ago, when i exportet that same video 20 times because it seemed to have that ugly gamma shift it didn't have when editing and grading, i never used QT to preview anything ever again...

This awful piece of software owes me too much of my precios lifetime.

VLC is just lovely, it will play almost anything, you have manual control over scaling, aspect ratio, deinterlacing etc...

i rarely use anything else for watching video on a computer...

    (except maybe device central)
