Looking for a tutorial on creating texture backgrounds

I am looking for a different methods of creating texture backgrounds such as old ruff solid & parchment backgrounds.

I am trying to duplicate the method I used in Photoshop CS3, have Photoshop CS5, but forgot how to do it.

    Lay the texture layer over the background layer, and experiment with layer modes and opacity.

    Here is a small image of the background I want to find the method of generating. The original image is an 8 x 11.5" object.

     

    I think I saw and then copied the method in the video tutorial but I can't remember on what website I viewed the instructionsDarker Warm Brown Craquelure Background 4x4 .gif.

    You can fill a layer with white, black, or medium gray, then apply noise, then place a color adjustment layer over it.

     

    Or you can find images that appear to be the same. This looks like a corkboard to me, so unless there is a reason you must generate the backgrounds, I would look for images that are close in nature, then tile them enough to fill your canvas. A ton of ways to create textured backgrounds.

    That seems to work, but I can't get the pumps to be large enough and more irregular.

    Create noise, uncheck Monochromatic, apply Threshold Adjustment layer to make larger chunks, apply color adjustment layer. You can always try and blur the noise a little to soften the edges. Just play with these steps in different order for different effects.

    Looks like Leather to me, so you go to Google and seach for Leather texture, and find lots and lots exactly like your sample

    Looks like Leather to me

     

    Maybe from a diseased animal, haha.. that texture looks pourous like cork.

    I was able to remember the name of the artist that I first saw several years ago. Sent an e-mail to Bert Monroy and he responded. With his help, I've been able to duplicate the background by using the sequence: Noise, Emboss, and Craquelure then apply a color.
