I´m currently working on a book project in Lightroom 4. I´m trying to add pictures (new pictures), but that does not seem to work on an ongoing book project.
Any tips on this?
A book is like a collection among others in the Collections panel. You can add photos to it, like any other collection. Then, in the Book module, add some blank pages and drop the new photos onto them.
This is how it works for me:
When you want to add more images to an existing "saved book"=collection, leave the book module and go to library module.
Then drag additional images from grid view into this collection.
Or rather more conveniently: right-click the book collection and make it the "target collection". Then move through your catalog and use key <b> to toggle membership.
Once sufficiently added, go back to the book module and put the new images on pages.
To add images to a saved book, I found that the easiest way is to do as mentioned above. While in Library mode, drag the images you want to add to the saved book (it will be one of the collections in the left panel).
You will see that the image count increments for that collection. Click on the collection to see the set of images, you can confirm that the new image(s) were added. Part of my confusion was that the new images were mixed rather than appearing at the end or being flagged in some way.
When you click on the saved book collection, you will also see a small arrow appear in th collection's name. You can click that to go straight to the book.
The new images will appear only in the filmstrip at the bottom of the screen, if you haven't opened the filmstrip, you won't see them. From the strip you can drag and drop your added images to available spots in your book layout. I'm not a fan of the filmstrip and definitely not a fan that this is the only way you can do some things in LR.
Hope this helps. Dennis
