Lightroom 4 (Initial and RC2) dispearance of images - displayed as grey rectangles

The following happened in LR4,  I installed RC2 hoping it may cure it but problem remains:

 

Photos in whatever module cannot dispaly images after having worked properly for a while in any module no image display but grey rectangles... asking for "display in the explorer" shows in superposition that images are ther...

catalogue seems ok (structure and all, metadata are ok,  in the development module memory has been kept of photos adjustment...

 

Re-opening catalog or optimizing does not have any effect....

 

Quiting LR is just abrupt with no asking for back-up...

    Re-calibrate your monitor.

    If not a monitor cal issue, you might want to try deleting your preview cache too, see:

    Thanks for the recalibration tip

     

    BUT  I found out that, while wanting to make a shortcut to reach it easily, I had inadvertantly moved the  \color\   folders which normally lies under C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\

     

    stupid me

     

    What made me realise was Datacolor Spider 4 refusing to save calibrationas was suggested by KWDAVES (no directory)...

     

    Replacing \color\ where it should be restored the display...

     

    I'll need to re-calibrate
