I can open a project, import files or other projects, but when I want to play the sequence the program stops working and closes. When I try to save the project or close the program I get a "software not responding" message.
I hope someone can help me with this as I cannot work on any projects.
thanks.

Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... a screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing

If you have a red line over the timeline after importing a video and before adding any effects... your project is wrong for your video... read above about codecs
.
Once you know exactly what it is you are editing, report back with that information... and your project setting, and if there is a red line above the video in the timeline, which indicates a mismatch between video and project

Thanks Harm,
but patience is not the problem. I have only adobe running and I have waited more than 10 min to close a project that only contains one file of ~ 30sec, that when I am lucky enough that the software closes itself while trying to playback the sequence.
I do not get any error messages or have a chance to record any settings as the program closes itself.
I have work with an earlier version of the adobe in a windows XP, and never had that problem, even when I was running something else. This computer is much better fit for the new adobe Cs5.5 but I have not been able to work with it yet.
If you have any ideas how to look for the problem please let me know. I am sure I am not the only one that has this problem.
Thanks for your help.

Software not responding is a typical Windows message. It simply means you have to be patient, because Windows has other things to do before closing PR. You may alleviate this problem by improving your system and/or tuning your system.

Hi john,
thanks for taking the time to help me. I have updated the software and rendered the files and now I am able to play them, but still neither the sequence nor the clip play/show on the corresponding screens, I can only hear the audio file. I also continue having problems when saving the project, the software stops working and I get the "non responding" error from microsoft.
As you suggested, and I have to say I am pretty much a dummy with the codecs and alike, I installed the mediainfo and run one of the files.
This is the info that appears on the screen
I am not getting any error messages from Premiere, so I am kind of stock. If you need other info let me know.
Thanks for your help and patience.

hi,
I have re-install premiere pro, I have download and install the update, I have the clip and sequence rendered (green line over the clip), but I am still having issues with the playback. I cannot play the sequence, and when it plays I only get audio.
This is how my screen looks like. As you can see whatever was on my screen when I started the project shows on the programe window, and it does not go away whatever I do.
I have checked the consistency of the file using Mediainfo and this is the info I get.
The same files do not have problems in an older version of premiere. Hoe can I check is my computer is not adequate for pro cs 5.5? My system should be enough, but can I have issues with the video card or any other issues?
I need urgent help as I need to finish with the editing.
Thanks
Zill
