After a clean install, why are my "put" and "get" options not available(grey out, not highlighted)?

Apr 29, 2012 1:23 AM

HI, new guy here. Thanks in advance.

OS X Snow Leapord and CS3 on a older Macbook Pro.

I have tried reinstalling, uninstalling and reinstalling, but no luck. I downloaded all updates for the OS.

DW worked so well for me, until I formated and reloaded everything. Now I don't know where to start on this problem.

Thanks again,

Ross

    1. Have you defined a site in DW?
    2. Have you cleared your DW cache? - http://www.dmxzone.com/go?16740

Have you made your site definition in Dreamweaver first?

We are all questioning the correctness of your existing site's definition.

    IT IS ESSENTIAL

Please walk me though the process.

The process of defining a site is what the links show you.

What information you enter into those define site screens in DW affects your ability to upload your website correctly.

Can you post a screenshot of your Remote Site definition from DW?

    For example

    dw-remote-site-definition.png

    1. Is the site you're working on currently listed in your DW Sites? Goto Sites > Manage Sites and look it up
    2. If it is present, is it the same site that you're creating your files in that you're trying to PUT?
    3. Is the definition screenshot you've posted above the site you're trying to put in?
    4. Did you click on 'Test Connection' tab in the screenshot above? Did it test successfully?
    5. Can you also post a screenshot of this image in Advanced tab? Right now, you've posted in Basic tab.

How did you produce the screenshot if you have no site listed under Manage Sites?

Site > New Site  - fill in your local website path in Local Info (you could choose the root folder in which your existing website resides on your computer. DW will pick up the site automatically. Then, go to Remote Info, Fill in your FTP credentials there.

Now, you can see the site you defined in your Sites tab. You could simply choose to PUT these files to your remote server.

Another option is for you to complete your design locally and then upload those files to your FTP using a FTP client such as Filezilla. However, I'd strongly recommend that you define your site in DW to make it easier for testing/ revamping purposes.

You're not getting what I meant.

Import option is only to import Dreamweaver Site Definitions, not for your custom files. If you already made a site definition and have exported it from Site > Manage Sites, you could re-import it to your DW Site definitions again. For creating a new site definition, you just have to hit NEW and create one with the local path of your existing website location on your computer.
