copy and align functions greyed out

Hello,

 

I am running Photoshop CS5 Extended on a Mac OSX 10.7.3. I can not copy or align any files in Photoshop. This happens no matter what I do or how the file was created. I have tried everything and nothing seems to resolve the issues. It is not a locked layer, I have checked all my preferences and I am using all the default settings. I am at my witts end!

 

Basically what I have been doing is to use Fireworks but I now have to use Photoshop for a certain project.

 

Any help or advice would be much appreicated.

    What are your steps to trying to align?

    Copy implies selecting something to copy first.

     

    Align implies choosing objects on several different layers to align.

     

    As Shan-Dysigns has said, please provide more information.
