I want to create a really simple form to collect people's email for a site. Usually I'd make a form in dreamweaver, set the action to mailto: with my email address, set the method to post and set the enctype to text. Now I notice there isn't a default for text in the enctype drop down, what should I set it to?
Is this still a good way of doing this sort of thing or is it outdated?
Mailchimp is free for you to send 6 emails to 2,000 people a month. First step to worry about is how you are going to be storing the names and sending out the email. Are you storing them in a database, or are you having the form email someone to manually maintain an Excel CSV spreadsheet? Once you have that information then you need to find a script to do this for you and that leads to the question of what languages your host supports whether it is PHP or ASP.
>I'm assuming if I do it this old way it will work, right?
No. Using mailto in forms is very unreliable - it will fail in many situations, especially with most folks using web mail these days. The only reliable method is to use server side scripting.
