Saving as jpeg issue

I have Elements 8

Until recently it worked fine but within the past month, whenever I edit a photo like enhancing or cropping and save it as a .jpeg it is saved as .file

I am not doing anything any different then in the past.

Your suggestions to try and solve this issue will be greatly appreciated.

PS

I uninstalled and reinstalled the program but no change.
