Defringe - Local vs. Global Amount

It seems local defringe @100 is much subtler correction than global @20.

 

How do the global / local amounts work???

    I think you're going to have to be more specific with exactly what you're talking about Rob.  Maybe include some screen grabs?

     

    What do you mean by "local" vs "global"?  Is it possible you could be crossing up the Defringe setting with Chromatic Aberration Removal?

     

    Defringe in Camera Raw 6.7 RC and 7.0 beta is a parameter that's on or off for the entire image, near as I can see.  It affects the debayering.  And Defringe doesn't seem to have a setting ("@100", "@20").

     

    Is this something you're seeing in Lightroom?

     

    I'm soooo confused!

    ACR is yet to get the new axial CA removal that Lr 4.1 has got.

    So there is apparently some confusion between Defringe and CA Removal then, as well as between Lightroom and Camera Raw.

    Hi Noel,

     

    Purple/Green defringing can be applied globally (amount 0 to 20) or adjusted locally (-100 to +100).

     

    But a local of +100 has considerably less "oomph" (strength of correction) than the global at 20.

     

    Clearer?

    Sorry, no, not in the slightest.

     

    There's no such thing as "Purple/Green defringing" in Camera Raw.  I just checked the just released Camera Raw 6.7 official version, thinking maybe it was something they slipped into the release.  Nope.  And I checked Camera Raw 7.0 in Photoshop CS6.

     

    This is the Camera Raw forum.   Did you mean to post this in the Lightroom forum?

    Noel,

     

    I assumed ACR was same as Lightroom in this regard - I'll repost in Lr forum.

    Maybe it will show up in Camera Raw 7.1 with the Photoshop CS6 release.
