Before/after: LR4.1 for 32-bit HDR images - wow!

May 1, 2012 1:17 PM

I have given the new support in LR4.1 for 32-bit HDR images a try. I'm very impressed.

Here's an old version (Photomatix I think) of an HDR I shot a few years ago:

Not so bad, huh?

Now look what I could do after creating a 32-bit tiff and importing into Lightroom:

The new defringing is awesome to have. The fringes can become so very visible otherwise when making HDR.

I've got all the gory details of how I did this on my blog:

Anyone else who has given this a spin?

i think the photomatix one looks better from the colors (subjectiv i know).

but it´s nice that LR supports 32 bit tiffs and the color in LR could still be edited.

the LR looks "crisper" and not so muddied in the dark areas of the trunk.

i think i have to play with my 32 bit files and LR a bit.

Interesting. I can never control Photomatix as well as I would like to give unhaloed realistic renderings. This looks like it might be the way to go for HDR that doesn't make babies cry.
