I have a large End of Month report that typically runs around 19,500 pages, give or take a 100 or so. The problem is I try to save this file either 'File,Save' or 'File, Save As' and Adobe locks up. Nothing I do with the hardware seems to help. Is there a patch or something I download and install to solve this problem? What can do I do about it?
Please response to twhitten@mde.k12.ms.us

If you can get away without links and bookmarks, print to the Adobe PDF printer and do not use the save option (that is PDF Maker or the MS addon). Another step to improve performance that might meet your need is to empty the TEMP folder just before the PDF creation. There are various ways to empty the TEMP folder and a program like CCleaner will do the job usually.
Thanks for responding. I’ll certainly try your suggestions. I did get the pdf to save yesterday but it took a long time. It’s a big file so I’m sure how long it ‘should’ take to save. This server is in a VMWare environment and I’ve got 4 CPU’s and 8gigs of ram thrown at this. Just seems like it shouldn’t take that long. But I guess I’m wrong; it is a big file.
Thanks again!
Good day Thomas,
It's probably less an issue related to the CPU/RAM made available to the VM, but rather the temp file it's writing inside the VM. 19500 (+/- 100
) is a large document and will have an even larger temp file. Honestly, a long Save time is expected behavior.
Kind regards,
David
