I have in design CS5.5 and I am trying to print a simple letter. I select file/print... and in the print dialog box I have the printer selected but when I goto print it keeps sending me to the 'print to file' dialog box. Can someone give me a hand. Thanks
Dan
Have you tried trashing your prefs? See Replace Your Preferences
I just tried printing and existing document that was converted from an older version of Indesign and it worked fine. But still can get this simple letter to print... keeps sending me to the 'print to file' dialog box. I look at the printer selection in the print dialog box and it is correct. This is baffling to me.

I am totally confused, I tried the ctrl alt shift and nothing happened. ID opened like it normally did. I also tried to delete the preferences files but my files paths are not the same. Also I am new to windows 7 and I am not even sure what my path is. I dont know where it is displayed. Like I mentioned before, I can print other documents but this simple letter does not work. HELP

You have to be very fast withthe keyboard to use that method. Try again and watch for the confirmation alert.
The files you need to delete are hidden, so you must set Explorer to show hidden files if you want to use the manual method. In Explorer, Tools > Folder Options... then the View tab. If you don't see the Menu Bar in Explorer, click Organize, then Layout and show the menu bar. The paths to the folders are listed in the link. You'll need to susstitute your own username and the version number/language for your version.
I was able to do the automatic delete of the preference files when starting ID and it did seem to clear stuff out like recent files etc. But I still have the print problem. Since I dont know how to screen capture I will list my settings in the print dialog box
