How can I indicate the tabbed position as part of a style?

HI Again.
Now that I have my tabbed prices working I'd like to incorporate the tab as part of the character style.
I always keep the prices the same size regardless of where they come in the menu layout, i.e. if it is after the Item Name the price is smaller.
If it falls at the end of a line that is part of the body copy it may be bigger then the body type.
I use a character style to set the price size.
Since in this job I am aligning all the prices to a decimal tab, I would like to incorporate the tab into the style but it does't seem to work.
When I create a style based on the tabbed price it doesn't seem to have any effect.
Is there a way to do this?
