Are dynamic endnotes available yet in InDesign CS6?

This has been a feature request for many versions now. I don't see it listed in the New Features, but maybe I missed it.

    No changes to footnotes or endnotes, sorry.

    Is there some technical reason why these can't be implemented?

    Depends on what you mean by technical.

     

    New features are prioritized by the amount of cost in terms of engineering time vs the number of users who will benefit from the feature. There is every indication that notes will get some love in a new release sometime soon, but the real empahisis for CS6 was expansion and improvment of the tools for digital publication, which is an exploding and rapidly changing market. Many of us are not happy about it, but I can understand from a management point of view that if Adobe misses the boat on the new technology the results will be disastrous for the future of the company.

    Glad to hear that I'm not alone in my frustration. I have the stupor-inducing task of creating ebooks myself, and I've been happy to see the improvements made to InDesign in this area over the past year or so. But since having linked endnotes is such a basic feature in ebooks, I would think that Adobe would have paid a bit more attention to adding this feature by now. Third-party scripts can get the job done, but they are cumbersome to work with. It would be great to see something done about dynamically linking index entries for ebooks too. So maybe next year with CS6.5.
