tried downloading adobe photoshop elements..

tried downloading adobe photoshop elements on my Mac and I keep getting a message after that says "the following disk images couldn't be opened" "Invalid checksum". what do I do?

    Has the download completed?  Where are you choosing to download the install files too?

    download completed, and I put the file into my Application folder - moved it to my desktop. (nothing happened)

    This is likely what is causing your difficulties.  The Adobe Download Assistant is not able to save the download to the Applications folder.  I would recommend trying the download again and using the default location of the user folder.
