SOURCE MONITOR Will not work

May 3, 2012 2:40 PM

I now have a new problem.

At first I was not getting sound in the source monitor, I still have that problem but now I find that after I have used the source monitor once the next clip or still I try to load into the source monitor I get nothing or a white screen.

This only started after I up graded to 5.5. It happens in HD or HDV or SD resolutions.

Anyone have an idea what is going on?

Thanks

Dennis

Hardware, software, OS, version, source material and codec, steps, driver versions, third party stuff, just to name a few of the open questions.

    "I can't find my car"

    1. You don't have a car.

    2. You looked in the wrong place.

    3. Your wife took it.

    4. It was stolen.

    5. You were only dreaming.

    6. ...

So, what is the solution? Urgent help needed!!!!

    Get the picture

You have to give way more details for anybody to help you and the lack of it is OE, as may be the rest.

What happens if you drag a file from the bin to the source monitor?

What kind of files are you editing, and does your project match so there is no red line over the timeline?

Read Bill Hunt on a file type as WRAPPER http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037

    What is a CODEC... a Primer http://forums.adobe.com/thread/546811

What CODEC is INSIDE that file? http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037

    .

Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... a screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing

    .

    For PC http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ or http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en

    For Mac http://mediainspector.massanti.com/

    .

    http://blogs.adobe.com/premiereprotraining/2011/02/red-yellow-and-gree n-render-bars.html

    .

If you have a red line over the timeline after importing a video and before adding any effects... your project is wrong for your video... read above about codecs

    .

Once you know exactly what it is you are editing, report back with that information... and your project setting, and if there is a red line above the video in the timeline, which indicates a mismatch between video and project

    .

H.264 will NOT work inside an AVI wrapper http://forums.adobe.com/thread/854115

Is any of this stock reply actually directly relevant to the O.P's issue?

Thanks for the info on your hardware, software, and the further description of your HDV project.  Some things are still unclear to me:

I tried to drag a file to the source monitor and I got nothing.

What do you mean by nothing?

Second I am today editing an HDV project with an HDV sequense. The video was captured into this sequence. The video runs fine on the timeline no red line.

The other files are layered PSD files that also work fine on the times line.

And once again if I place any of these files on the time line they run and if I double click on them they open in the source monitor, even the audio works then.

    So what is wrong then?
