I have been using a Nikon D4 to shoot video for about a month. I edit on a 15 in MacBook Pro Dual Quad 2.2MGh with 8GB of RAM. I was shooting on a Nikon D3s and the video files were 720x1280 at 24p avi's. The D4 is set at 720x1280 30p .mov and are H.264. When I'm editing the D4 files I get a lot of stuttering and won't play in real time. Has anyone run into this? Do I need to encode my D4 files to Apple Pro Res for editing? If so, suggestions on an encoder?
There is a work around on Windows that may solve the issue. Try renaming the clips from .mov to .mpg.
I don't know for certain that that will work on a Mac, because I understand Macs don't rely on file extensions like Windows does.
I just tried that and it seems to work well. No stuttering. Thank you. It's kind of a pain to go through all the files and change the names but it works. Hopefully there will be an update to fix this but it's easier than encoding. \
Yes, this is fixed in Premiere Pro CS6.
Regarding renaming: Bridge is great for batch-renaming.
Here's more context about this issue, by the way:
I used Bridge today to change the file names. Much easier that doing each on singly. Thank you for the advice.
