Paste an object into a frame

Is there any way to copy an image from one frame and then paste it into another with exactly the same size, effects, attributes, and position as the original? It seems that when I do a "paste into", the newly-pasted image takes on the attributes of the image that was pasted over.

Why not just copy paste the object? Why paste into?

If I already have one or more frames in position, on the right layer, it's easier to "paste into". I used to be able to do that back in CS4, I believe, but something has changed since then. (And sometimes I have a new rame of a different size.)
