#Shareobjects deleting itself

Windows Vista 64bit

Firefox 11

Flash Player is up to date - 11.2.202.228

 

The file #sharedobjects keeps emptying itself causing all saved data in game and such to be wiped. I'm not sure on what time frame it auto-deletes but this happened after the latest flash player update.

    Do you have anything running that could be cleaning your browser's cache?  Do you have the Firefox extension BetterPrivacy installed?

    I have two extensions, Norton Toolbar and Symantec Intrustion Prevention. I've had these before the update and did not have this problem before.

    Do you run any cleaning tools such as CCleaner?  If so, you may want to turn off Flash Player cleaning.

    I use no cleaning tools whatsoever.

    Sorry, I have no more ideas; hopefully someone from the Flash Player team can come up with additional ideas.

     

    All I can say is that Flash Player does not do that by itself, so it must be something else.  Norton/Symantec of course are always suspects.

    First, just for sanity sake, you aren't using private browsing are you?

     

    If not, the next thing I'd try is to see what is writing and deleting files from your #SharedObjects folder.  Grab Process Monitor and start it up.  Create a new filter with:

     

    "Path", "begins with", "C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects", "include"

    From here you might be able to see what process is deleting the file.  You can also add another filter with "detail" "contains" "delete" "include".

     

    Finally, if you haven't already you might want to consider resetting your Firefox profile.

    I added the filter but what exactly should I be looking for now?

    Can you see any activity?  You should see who/what does any activity in there.

    WEll I'm new to Process Monitor, it's a big list after I filter but I do notice the columns Operation, Result, and Detail and I have a feeling I should be looking there but can I sort alphabetically by those columns?

    I'd look for the word "delete" in the detail column.  Hopefully you see when one of these files/folders are being deleted and you can see what process is responsible.

    I guess if you delete history/cookies and such in Internet Explorer it just completely empties #Sharedobjects which has never happened before.
