I'm finding the LR4 is (generally speaking) over exposing RAW (.nef) images by anything between 1 to 2 stops.
My .nef files are from a Nikon D3 and the 'Lens Correction' delelope module in LR4 has been set up for my camera and lenses and the Camera Calibration module is set up for 2012 (Current).
Might this problem be solved with an upgrade or am I the only one having this problem?
The Develop settings and tools are quite different in LR4 than L$3 (PV2010 v PV2012), this also affects the autotone which is now image aware. This is still a work in progress as most features are. Can you link us to a raw file that shows this please so I can see exactly what is happening, thanks.
I've posted three different images here [http://www.leavalleyphotographic.co.uk/images.html] so you can see what is happening with a lot (not all) of my images with regard to being over exposed when using the 'Auto' function for exposure.
All of my images within LR4 are set as 2012 process and I've just upgraded to LR 4.1 RC2.
Any advice would be very welcome as this problem didn't occur with LR3.6
I've just noticed that if I revert the Process to 2003 the over exposed images become correctly exposed... curious...
I've noticed the same thing. Very frustrating. I know some people don't use the function at all but I like to use it as a starting point. And LR4 auto tone is a disaster. I did a test with LR3 and the results are dramatically different. Adobe has got to fix this. Otherwise, it's a worthless feature.
I've just attempted to process (using the Auto feature) another images using Lightroom 4.1RC2 and got even an even more horrendous result than normal.
I've added the new images to the link below...
As Fletcho says "Adobe has got to fix this. Otherwise, it's a worthless feature."
Maybe someone from Adobe can comment?
Yep - auto-tone is not working very well in Lr4 (Adobe has acknowledged this on the feedback forum, and assured us they are working on it). I suggest manual-tone until Adobe improves this aspect, or forever... (I haven't used auto-tone in years, except for occasional curiosity).
I have never found Auto Tone useful in LR since inception and in any other raw conversion software and I have used the following in addition to LR, Capture One, Bibble, Silkypix, Aftershot Pro, Rawshooter and others.
