connection or ftp issue with image files

I can connect to the server and view the list of files there, I can upload html files with no problem. But when i attempt to upload an image file, even those i have uploaded in the past, I receive the error message, "Connection to the host has been lost. Click refresh to reconnect." I have not made any changes that i am aware of, although it has been some months since I last updated this site. I am using Dreamweaver CS4. Thanks for any help.
