I'm a bit confused?

May 5, 2012 2:55 AM

I'm trying to work out Adobe's new Creative Cloud. It's not cheap, but I can get the academic license which makes it a bit more reasonable.

For me it's a way of getting CS6 upgrade but almost more importantly I like the whole file sharing thing in the cloud.

However, as much as I watch the videos I've not worked out what it can do. Can I use it to sync my entire Lightroom Library with my ipad?

As far as I know, that is exactly the kind of use Adobe has in mind for this.  Again, I am just a guy out here in Kansas waiting patiently for his thing to drop.  To the extent your Lightroom library is within the 2 gigs of storage limitation, I think you would be fine.

My "preorder" date moved from May 7 to May 11 now. And anotehr guy who watched a webinar wrote that they said the 1st week in June. May 7 isn't looking too good now.

That doesn't sound good.  I am very anxious!  I may have given Pete some incorrect information.  Does Adobe provide 2 gigs of cloud storage or 20?

    Hi Pete,

The cloud storage allows you to upload the projects you are working on in the CS6 applications to the cloud to be able to open them on other computers or share with others. You can preview what the files look like with without having the CS6 products installed. So you could share a project that is in progress with a client and have them leave comments on it for feedback. You could upload your project on one computer and then download at another location. If you had the Adobe Touch apps on your iPad you could upload the projects you created on the tablet to the Adobe Creative Cloud website and then download and import them into the CS6 products on your mac. Although Lightroom 4 will be included with Creative Cloud Membership I don't believe its specifically intended to be able to upload your entire image library, Adobe actually has another app for this purpose Adobe Revel, there is a plug-in on Adobe Labs for Lightroom and uploading to Revel. The cloud storage is mostly intended for being able to store/transfer projects you are working on online through the cloud.

    Hope that helps,

    -Dave

Putting your Lightroom Library on the new Adobe Creative Cloud will be very similar to putting it on Dropbox. That is to say, you will need to jump through some hoops to use it on two computers and it will not work on computers that do not have LR installed.

Check out Mosaic. We are releasing a Lightroom Web App called CloudView that will syncronize your last 2,000 LR images automatically to the web. All of your development edits and new images will automatically be available.

After our initial release, we will also offer the ability to make catalog/metadata edits (Stars, Flags, Keywords, ect.) right from your iPad.

This should be live by mid-June. As Adobe community members, please contact me if you are interested in beta testing! ( gerard "at" mosaicarchive.com )

    Best, Gerard

Dave I really need to know a release date. I would love to use this cloud suite but I need Lightroom now and  the hint of a June release date wont work for me. I have already signed up and will need to cancel and be content with CS4 a while longer because I will have to go ahead and purchase Lightroom. I don't want to and cant do both. Thanks in advance.

If you have to have Lightroom right away it might be better to just purchase that app versus wait for it to be avaiable through CC. I don't have an exact date when it would be included sorry.
