Hi!

I hope you are doing well!!

If you want to restore the Menu bar on a Windows machine, then press the "F9" key from the keyboard.

On Mac, press the combination of: "Command + shift + M"

Let us know if you still experience any issues.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

Is this in all PDFs or just some?

I'm asking because the creator can set the Initial View to hide the toolbar when the document is opened. F9 will bring it back while the file is open, but not when it's re-opened This can't be changed in the free Reader.

Hi Bernhard22329323q07i and SB Uses AAReader,

Sorry about the delay in response.

Please try removing the application from the machine and run the cleaner tool (https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html) to ensure. Reboot the device after that.

Install the latest version of Acrobat Reader from the following help page: https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/.

If the issue still occurs, share the process logs with us. You may collect the process logs using the steps

Thanks for providing the answer, Anand, but isn't this a design flaw with the UI? If the menu is hidden there seems to be no way to restore it unless you happen to know the keyboard shortcut. That's not intuitive. Can you flag this with the approprate team in Adobe? Thanks!

It is definitely a shameful design flaw. UI designers learned not to do such design years ago:-(

I just had to reinstall Reader a couple of days ago because it kept freezing up. I downloaded the latest version and I am now experiencing the same problem. There does not seem to be an option to turn it on anymore; I've looked through the preferences menu and could not find it. And hitting F9 does nothing (and, yes, I know on laptops you have to push Fn + F9).

Hi John31299172avlr,

Thank you for reaching out.

As the menu bar does not appear even after the reinstallation, would you mind sharing the screenshot of the window as it appears on your end?

Share the Acrobat Reader and OS version numbers installed on the machine.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

The function keys can be set to use the Standard Function keys (F1, F2, F3) or the image on the top of the key (sound, brightness). Whichever you set up as the default, you need to hold down the function key (fn) to do the opposite.

Or you can change it in your system preferences.

Why is this issue the most annoying, the most frustrating, the most frequent issue I have, and is this the hardest thing for which to find a fix?(for me anyway) if I went through as many steps hiding the tools bars as I do retsoring them, it would never happen.

But, now I know...F9 to the rescue.

Got the same annoying problem, the top bar - with the document title and 'min - max - x' tools disappears all the time.

A repair dod not work

A complete new install did not work.

F9 brings it back for a moment, but then it's gone again.

Ctrl M  seems to have done the trick today. Hopefully it stays this way.

I'm asking because the creator can set the Initial View to hide the toolbar when the document is opened. F9 will bring it back while the file is open, but not when it's re-opened This can't be changed in the free Reader.

Now that is interesting. Yesterday all seemed fixed after Ctrl M, Yet today the top bar hides again and again. And Ctrl M does not do anything, so that must have been a coincidence.
You mention the creator can set the initial view. That appears not the case with me. To verify I just took an old PDF, one I made myself a long time ago, and the toolbar hides now.  But for me the 'hiding' issue is new, since a few weeks or so. And the toolbar goes on and off. Totally annoying. Never seen before.
I open lots of PDF's and move them around and resize them to fit the purpose of the moment, but now that's 'not fun'.  Even while dragging the window across screens the bar hides.
If it's a new feature, give the designer a long break!
