I work for a small company that sells a software system for document management. We are interested in going after business that involves scanning and OCR.
I'm looking for sources of information about commercial use of OCR -- books, web sites, classes, anything -- and I haven't found much. I'm writing to ask if anyone knows of resources that would be useful for us.
I'll say a bit more about what I'm looking for: resources that will help us learn what's easy, what's difficult, and what's impractical; what to look for in advanced OCR software; how to use advanced OCR software (not any particular OCR software) intelligently and effectively; how to deal with common issues like image quality in a high-volume production environment; and so on.
I'm not looking for books on how to develop an OCR engine. On the other hand, I'm not looking for anything at the "OCR for Dummies" end of the scale. And I'm probably not looking for something written ih the 1990's or earlier. Anything that was possible then is likely to be old hat by now!
You might find some information on this on the AIIM website -- look for content about Imaging/Capture. There is also content about New AIIM Capture Software Product Study that could be useful.
