Lightroom 4 Map - GPS input

Hello,

I wish to input the GPS data (latitude, longitude) manually in the ways:

- Insert the value directly into the GPS field on the image (in map mode). It is pretty hard. In fact, I try to copy/paste value but I failed. I wish to be able to simply add manually GPS data to a picture

- Move the map to a point giving llatitude, longitude. Maybe add a field close to "search".

  Please comments!

  Have fun

  Nico

It would be much quicker if you find the point on the map in the map module and simply drag the appropriate images onto that spot  on the map - the photos will then be given the gps co-ordinates in the metadata. Alot quicker than manually tagging images.

A freeware program called Geosetter will do this

In addition to Geosetter Jeffrey's Geocoding plug-in for Lightroom will let you do this.

It's not documented, but you can use a decimal format like

         37.1234 N 75.98765 W

to enter it into the image's GPS field. LR will it convert it to the minute/second-format

         37°7'24" N 75°59'16" W

which can also be entered directly.

Unfortunately, that seems to be impossible at present. You can enter coordinates into the search field in the same format as described above, but the active map point will not change to the coordinates, but to the nearest known "address point". I have just completed adding GPS data to about 2000 files. As Nico, I had no idea as to where exactly the picture was taken. Most of these I found via Google Street Maps, or Satellite Views and using the found coordinates in LR4, by pasting them into the map search window. This worked very well. Found this easier than Geosetter, especially once a lot were marked. I set up "Saved Locations" in the map module, enabling me to jump between places with ease.

Another easy way I found is to drag one picture into the location on the map.
Then go back into Library view and sync the metadata by selecting the pictures in the same area. Works quite slick and fast. The advantage of this over doing it in map: you can see the pictures easier in Library view.

Instead, you could also select several from the filmstrip and drag all selected onto the map. Sometimes, it helps to have a second window open in map view
